Most of us would like to lose fat, while some of us would like to lose 30 pounds of fat. I am one of those people. I know what you’re thinking, “Hey Tourq, what happened to your progress?” Well, I have to confess, after about a month of work, I ended up right back where I started – at 204 lbs.

What Happened…
- My vacation got interrupted because I had to move my sister out of Idaho, so I couldn’t work out.
- For the rest of my vacation, I developed a breathing problem. I’ve been sucking on an inhaler for several days now. Blood tests, EKGs, CAT Scans, etc. have not yet diagnosed the problem. I’m due to see a pulmonologist soon.
- This led to some depression, because I couldn’t work out and was scared of what the problem might be.
- Which led to unhealthy eating, because I have low willpower.

So what happended, really?
Simple. I gave up. I’ll say it again. I GAVE UP.

How can I lose 30 pounds if I’m giving up in the process? As you can imagine, I’ve been a little bit upset with myself. However I realized that the reasons I fell off the bandwagon all boil down to me jumping off the bandwagon. I did it to myself. I could probably come up with several more reasons why I gained the weight back, but it wouldn’t matter; it will always be MY fault. That’s what I need to keep remembering: that I am responsible for my own weight loss. If I want to lose 30 pounds, I have to commit to it – really commit to it, regardless of the obstacles I face in the process.

What follows are some things that you can do to sabotage yourself. If you want to know how to not lose 30 pounds, follow these tips:

Do’s:
- Do find an excuse for not working out today.
- Do go to the grocery store when you’re hungry.
- Do tell yourself that you’ll start tomorrow.
- Do start off really hard and then burn yourself out.
- Do eat like crap when you can’t exercise.
- Do tell yourself that it’s too hard to diet sensibly and exercise.

Don’ts:
- Don’t set any weight loss goals.
- Don’t have a plan.
- Don’t research the best way (for you) to lose 30 pounds.
- Don’t get a workout buddy.
- Don’t work out more than twice a week.
- Don’t avoid the Big Mac on the way home.
- Don’t avoid the fries and shake, either.
- Don’t take responsibility when you don’t lose 30 pounds.

This is my pledge to be honest with my readers and myself. I’m going to start posting my results and the things that I accomplished each week. Hopefully I can keep myself accountable, and hopefully you can gleam some fat loss tips from my progress. My endeavor to lose 30 pounds is now in full force.

  1. Fantastic mate, glad to see you are being accountable and taking the right steps to get to where you want to be. Good luck and I looking forward to hearing more!

I hope your illness is nothing serious. As far as “jumping off the wagon”, the positive thing is that you used it as a learning experience. Now that you know how you dealt with the past situation it sounds like you’re on track to not let it happen again. Keep posting your progress and we (your readers) will help keep you accountable.

Holding yourself accountable is definitely a big one when it comes to losing weight. In my opinion, a person’s mindset is a HUGE factor when it comes to determining whether or not they will lose any weight at all.

The fact of the matter is that weight loss DOES require hard work. Not only that, consistent hard work. And as with anything in this life that’s worth attaining, weight loss is one of those tings that requires you to fully commit yourself to (something you also mention in this article) in order to be successful.

  4. Between whey protein concentrate and whey protein isolate, which among the two do you think is more expensive? Try to visit http://www.squidoo.com/high-protein-shake if anybody want more info.

I completely agree with your article. I think vegetarian food is the best way to lose the weight. I lost 10 pound in 2 days.

  7. I am a pescetarian, meaning that i am a “vegitarian” who eats fish. I am looking for a weight loss plan that will help me lose some weight while still not eating any meat other than fish ? what do you think?

  8. Good article. However, it is important to keep in mind that loosing 30 lbs will involve loosing a lot of mucle mass as well. This will decrease your metabolism and make it easier to gain weight after the diet. Good piece of advice is to loose weight through lifting weights. Dont think too much about dieting in the first place. Build up your muscles and thereby increase your metabolism, and you will see wonders!

I lost 20 pounds in one night! I think dropped it by the bus station. :)

@Myles, in UK BigMac + fries = 800 calories. 300 more than you should consume within one meal. Very hard to burn off :)

  13. Myles says:

Mmmm fries and a big mac, with a shake. I wonder how much all that is and how much do you burn off in 1 workout session.

  14. Tourq says:

    Thank you, Jason and Michelle.

    Tourq,

Im very proud that you are honest with your defeats and not make excuses. I think thats many people problem in the battle of weight loss. Keep it up, you’ll get there.

  17. What is a really good weight loss diet program?
I want to get a head start on weight loss for the new year. I don’t have a lot of extra time, so an online program would be best for me.

    • Tourq says:

Mohan, this diet plan works for me, although soon I will be making better use of a meal replacement shake in the evening. However, I see from the Gallery on your site that you might like a little bit more variety in your meals, so I don’t know if my plan will work for you.

I’ve heard several people recommend the Weight Watcher’s Online program, but I haven’t used it. Let me know if whatever you decide to use works for you!

      Thanks for commenting,

You are absolutely right. Vegetables ARE superfood. Too bad I have a hard time eating them.

  19. Erik A. says:

Glad to here a man – man up. Keep up the good work, dude, you’ll get there. I’m rooting for you!

I look forward to your next post.

By the way, I like the Acai Berry post. It’s a fruit, but that’s all it is. If someone wants a superfood, go to the vegatable section. There’s plenty there.
